Scythe, an engine-building game set in an alternate-history 1920s Europe, is one of Stonemaier's flagship titles. In this dieselpunk-inspired realm, five factions vie for dominance in a war-torn, mech-filled landscape. Each player represents a character from one of these Eastern European factions, aiming to earn their fortune and claim their faction's stake in the land surrounding the mysterious Factory.

The game features a streamlined action-selection mechanism to keep gameplay brisk and reduce downtime. While direct conflict is an option for players seeking it, there is no player elimination. Players choose from four top-row actions: move, bolster, trade, or produce. They then take the corresponding bottom-row action: upgrade, deploy, build, or enlist.

Scythe's asymmetric nature is a key draw, with players starting the game in different positions, possessing unique resources and hidden objectives. This variety, combined with the game's low-luck design, ensures a fresh experience every time.

The game ends when a player places their sixth star on the board, with the final score determined by coins, stars, controlled territories, resources, and structure bonuses, all multiplied by the player's popularity. The player with the highest score is declared the winner.
